Hmm. I somehow doubt it, unless you could also remove the rotor bars and possibly rewind the stator to provide the necessary field pattern, not sure though. Back to the series motor, would not supplying the brush gear with DC be a more elegant method? ie. a bridge rec AC side in series with the field coils DC across the brush gear?
