It is always upsetting when this sort of thing happens especially if you are actually caught out, but you were lucky Brian, you detected it, often decent honest hard working people all too often take things at face value, well done Brian.
I would add though, I think having the email addresses of all committee members on the web site is asking for trouble. The other vintage society who did actually loose very substantial amounts, also publish the email addresses of committee members on their website.
