I think I should make sure that there is no misunderstanding about my previous post. From what I have read about these modern magnet types, they can be virtually impossible to separate so handling them can be dangerous if, say, a fold of skin were to get between them when they mate.
Given the strong repulsion produced by using them with like poles together, it could be quite entertaining to see them defeating the purposes of mankind if it were not for the dangers involved.
Presumably, magnets of a suitable strength to replace the alnico magnet exist - although how they are transported safely would be interesting to know!
If so, presumably it would be much smaller than the original but, with suitable soft iron packing pieces, could one be made to fit between the existing pole pieces and make for a much safer replacement assembly?
