Ah yes I'd forgotten about AC/DC stuff. We were on 200 volts DC when I first moved to the Meadows area of Nottingham in 1959, remember the telly losing vertical hold all the time, Dad said "I'll be glad when we go on AC as it'll work better." & it did. My first radio was an AC/DC Murphy U130 & it was brilliant, I managed to lose it in a house move. (excuse me while I cry). ... I presume live chassis was cheaper & that's why it was liked by the set makers.... With hundreds of AC/DC radios & TV's only taking a half wave of each phase on a large circuit it must have upset the electric board a bit. What did they do about it?
