Brilliant!, the radio works, eventually.
Had a few teething problems getting it going, nothing serious, and no wiring issues, but it had me foxed for a while..
1. the rectifier was rather low only giving me about 80v HT.
I swapped it for a 506K from a KB 240 which was better, giving me 160v rising eventually to 170v but it depends to a great extent on the settings for the "volume" and regeneration.
2. Valve pins; The set was more or less dead at first, but after a good clean of all the valve pins and sockets I got a signal through.
It is very sensitive with loads of gain, easily enough to drive the OP into distortion.
The volume I suspect could be more, although it is currently more than enough for a large room. When I tested the AC064 output valve it was rather low on emissions with a GM of less than 1.
Lots of stations on MW including, both local and national including, with a lot of tweaking of the controls, Radio Caroline on 648kHz. Very good reception on the HF end of MW, with very good selectivity and loads of gain. LW is also very good with good strong reception on French stations and R4 signals.
All this was working just on the original frame aerial. This is easily the best TRF radio I have heard, audio quality is very good on the 12 inch moving coil speaker, it will be even better when it is fitted into the cabinet and onto a baffle.
I am very pleased with the results, and thankful I have not had to spend out a fortune on coil repairs.
