After fitting the false IVT back in the radio, very fiddly trying to get the nuts and washers on under the chassis in between the rest of the wires and components, I had a thought, maybe I should check the mica capacitor as it is not sealed on the edges.
It had a very small leakage, about 2.5uA on the AVO. So I took the transformer out again and changed the capacitor for a new 630v polyester one.
The spare 1:6 transformer I had was fitted with binding posts intended for breadboard type construction radios, and the original faulty one from the KB 214 was a type with solder tags under the chassis, so I dismantled the 2 transformers and swapped the insides around.
