Work on the cabinet continues, I have made a new shelf for the power supply and finished filling the worm holes in the front panels, there are still a lot of holes in the 2 side panels where the power supply shelf touched the sides.
I have turned my attention to the loudspeaker, namely the energising coil. It is the largest I have ever seen measuring about 4 inches in diameter.
I have removed the outer layers of insulation to check the connection to the lead out wire just in case the open circuit was at that point. No such luck.
The wire thickness is 0.15mm, and there are approximately 300 turns per layer. It looks like there are approximately 176 layers with tissue between each layer. Taking into account the thickness of the inter layer paper, which is 0.02mm, I estimate the total turns to be approximately 52800.
And taking an average diameter per layer of 70mm, I estimate there is 5755 m of wire in the coil.
This gives an estimated DC resistance of about 6215 ohms.
The coil alone weighs nearly 2kg.
I dont have any service information on this radio but the PSU looks identical to the PSU in my KB 286, so I have something to go on and to compare with.
