Well I got the very same when I was closing down in 2005, I did a little from home for a couple of months but it wasn't enough to feed the family and pay a mortgage. In fact for us we were days off going bankrupt so with a great bit of luck and perhaps kindness the council could see our predicament and got the house we are in now. We did sell our house and cleared off debts and were able to make this one very comfortable.
The snag though was so many customers thought you were doing it as a hobby, one chap actually thought I'd do a repair for nothing, I literally blew my top and pointed out I had a family, three children, a mortgage, rent for premises and all the other utility bills and overheads......... was he interested, not a chance, this though is the intellect of some that want work done. I am glad I am out and can fiddle around with old rubbish but it is actually fun and it now keeps me sane.
So I will say till i'm cremated, get out and have no regrets in leaving the trade, to my mind it is far from being a trade and has been for at least 15 years now.
