Well its not third time lucky for me with this one. After many hours spent on it two problems remain.
1. The MW oscillator is not running. I've replaced the fixed cap and the trimmer, and the coils at least show continuity, but the thing will not run. It may be a connectivity problem in the wafer switch but all the continuity checks indicate the components are all properly connected when MW is selected. Much hair has been pulled out - not sure if there is anything else I can try. All suggestions welcome at this stage.
2. Major crackle & pop noises when on Shortwave. Sounds like an arcing resistor. Noise level varies with the level of received signal. Again I've replaced components in the aerial tuning and osc. sections for SW but can't seem to nail down the source of the problem. All components that are in circuit have been checked/replaced except coils but again they check ok from a continuity perspective and I don't have any details on values for them. It may be a cracked dust core in a coil somewhere but that seems a long shot. Again, any thoughts on this are appreciated.
Longwave is fine but of course there are almost no broadcasts over here on LW so that's not much use!
I'm out of ideas for now so the set will most likely get stored away and I'll probably take the dial glass from it and put it in my parents P53 that I restored a while back.
