Has the set ever worked on AM since you've owned it? If not and the transistors were replaced by a third party, I'd be looking to revert back to germanium for sure and for man made faults. I think you need to scope the mixer and check its oscillating and or use a signal generator and work back from the detector and see where you loose the signal.
Hi, no, the set never worked on AM, hence my ignorant attempt at repair by substituting the major electrolytics and the trannies.
