Oh dear! Hope you get better soon. As for reversing the EHT module perhaps you could power it from an isolated DC-DC converter. The converter would need isolation to EHT voltage.
Another way to make non-lethal EHT is a diode split LOPT from an old PC monitor. I'm sure I've got a circuit somewhere but it's basically the LOP stage of a monitor driven from an oscillator and a variable voltage PSU. Apparently it's easy to make a variable voltage EHT supply from near zero up to 20kV+.
