I eventually got one 1j18b to oscillate up to 100mhz and another as an RF amp for 89.5mhz. I eventually abandoned the idea as it would have been too bulky as portable, I found it Needed 60v for reliable operation so some headroom was needed, the batteries would have been the bulk of the project.
I've even made a video amp with one, driving a CRT grid with surprisingly good results.
