Here is the little board I have made up as a temporary lash up.
The lower "chip" is the ALD detector and the upper one the SMD TL431. Results are excellent.
What I am going to try next is a TL431 wired as a regen set up using one or two turns of the main winding for the regen feedback, this could be interesting as some have done this with a ferrite rod aerial with good success, as the signal levels are much higher with the frame, I'd suspect MW DX would be very good indeed.
The component count is 9 which includes the headphones or speaker and the two chips.
