No confusion. Mike might need analogue to HDMI, whereas I needed HDMI to RGB. The point I was making was that at that price point, they didn't look great, irrespective of direction of travel. And while I know nothing about Virgin products, it's a shame the (or an additional?) box (probably?) can't be in the same room as the TV. That's the advantage of Freeview/Freesat/$ky, of course. Pure RGB straight into the back of the telly - lovely 
Incidentally, I spent 5 minutes on the John Lewis website looking at random models from Panasonic and Sony, at all price points including expensive 4k sets. In that time, I didn't find a single one that lacked a Scart or CVBS input. So, nothing to suggest that composite is completely gone. But still, PAL is pretty horrible on a flat-screen at any price - even the expensive pro monitors we have here.
