Co-channel and Adjacent channel interference is a common enough phenomemon. Band I TV could be badly affected under some weather conditions that gave enhanced propagation. In theory band planning is meant to avoid these problems but there is a conflict between interference and efficient use of frequencies. There will always be marginal cases.
On the UHF analogue TV network they used precision offset to minimise the effect of interference. The carrier frequencies were offset by small and precise amounts. Digital terrestrial TV has an inherent immunity to co-channel interference, the amount depending on the guard band chosen. This allows good rejection of multipath as well as single frequency networks if you want to design them that way.
