I certainly agree Mark. The unit would have worked well when new and these old Crystal cartridges do "go off" overtime.
What though is available now? I recently bought a Ronette copy cartridge and although the output and quality were reasonably good it didn't track well at all, it was a mono, stereo compatible cartridge, it did seem high compliance though which I believe it doesn't match with high mass arms., or have I got it the wrong way round? Anyway it did seem extremely stiff if you know what I mean.
