I'll check the screened lead from the amp to the pickup, but, AFAIK it is in good order, soldered to a tagstrip on the amp. chassis, but plugged via what i call 'lucar' connectors at the deck end. The 'tape' socket is plugged at the amp end to the same ponts as the pickup lead, also via miniature 'lucar' connectors. As mentioned, the cartridge isn't original, at least according to the service info. Presumably that failed before the player arrived on my doorstep!
