The hum will be pick up. Something wrong with the screened lead or earthing. The low output will either be the cartridge being faulty or a low output type. A new one from musonic will be around £40. Hope you estimated at least £100.
I always estimate at least £100 & take a £20 non returnable deposit, that comes off the final bill if accepted.
