Fortunately I have one or two chassis mounted transistor sets I can copy. The most interesting is a 1960 BEREC very neatly made on wood and metal. Lately too I do a fair bit of woodwork so it would be fun. Design wise, I certainly know how a valve radio works but am not yet familiar with typical transistorvalues for resistances and bypass capacitors. The way I'd probably go about it would be aerial stage (frame or ferrite), inductor and vane capacitor, then oscillator and mixer. I must have spare IF cans I can use. Maybe I could use a diode for detector. Whatever I do it would be just am and fm or maybe just one band.
My boat is now under control so I hope to get soldering later in the year.
What's the score with changing bias from 0.3 to 0.6? Is this difficult. Maybe there's an easy trick to get around this? Another diode perhaps? I found it a real headache to get GE spares.
