Today I carefully checked all connections and components on the amplifier chassis, tightening the push-on terminals from the o/p transformer to the main cassis, cleaned the valve pins, and applied servisol to the valve base. Despite all this the valve is still drawing no current (it was a 'pull' from a Grundig tape recorder,, btw!) could simply be a very low emission valve I guess - no means to test it, other than putting it back in the recorder.. My only other option is to try another known good ECL86. There was no valve in the HMV when i acquired it, and, when I first inserted the one I had, I was greeted with a very loud hum, which was due to faulty Reservoir & Smoothing Caps (since replaced). Could this have damaged the valve? Unlikely I'd have thought.
