The track Facing West by the Pat Metheny Group illustrates the classic Lyle Mays synth lead. It's based on the ocarina maybe with a bit of blow flute.
My track (as ever) was formed spontaneously. I used one of Sting's bass leads, shifted the octaves, threw in some backing and improvised with the Lyle Mays sound. Sometimes I mix in Calliope which also has that harmonic. PMG Group only ever charted once with David Bowie on vocals but they are awesome instrumentalists.
