Cut and shaped the "chassis" out of 2mm thick ali sheet kindly given me by Rob AKA Glowing Anode some time back. It took some bending, I "scored" along the fold line with an angle grinder then filed the sides of the score with a triangle profile file.
I got some solder with 4% silver in it to solder the joint's on the ceramic wafer's but found that your iron need's to be very hot and you need a long dwell time to get the solder to run, so there's a danger of meting insulated wire etc, so I mixed in a bit of normal solder in the joint. I unsoldered all the old component's and wire using normal 60/40 solder and found no problem with the silver U's detaching from the ceramic.
Here's some pics. I used silicon sleeving to cover the copper earth wire that connects the anodes and g2, which is fixed to pin 6 of the valve base. The red R's are Vishay 2w 220r which are the same size as a normal 1/2w carbon comp R. g1 bus is mounted on the wafers, I'm waiting for some 2K2 metal film R's (grid stoppers) that will connect the bus to g1's.
