It's got into a regular pattern now. Crashes within 5 minutes of switching on, then fine for rest of day. I ought to try a deliberate shut odown and switch off, just to see if it crashes the same way. As an aside I've no USB devices plugged in and turned on, drives V and W aren't there. Lookint at errors and critical events in the Event Viewer:

13/03/2017 06:32:50: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly
Just these 2 errors before the crash...
13/03/2017 06:29:54: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
