Today's decent cable (CAI approved, often generically if incorrectly called CT100) has fair bit of braid plus a foil shield. Much better than anything we routinely used before.
I've seen 1950s co-ax with reasonable briad coverage. Most of it was horribly high loss, just about acceptable for Band 1, hopeless for anything higher frequency.
