For those unfamiliar with the alphabet soup:
ELCB: Earth leakage circuit breaker. Can refer the the modern current operated types or the voltage operated types which are now totally obsolete for domestic use.
RCD: Residual current device. Or current operated ELCB. Measures the difference between live and neutral currents. Trips if this exceeds the rated value
RCCD/RCB/RCCB: Same as RCD
GFI: Ground fault interrupter. What our low voltage friends across the sea call an RCD
MCB: Miniature circuit breaker. The modern alternative to a fuse. Available in a wide range of currents and trip characteristics.
RCBO: MCB and RCD in a single package. If you're feeling flush, it's the best way to do a domestic installation. A RCD trip on one circuit then only affects that circuit.
