You can't do the old trick of cutting a floorboard at the edge of a joist and nail on bit of wood to the joist support the cut end.
Because I'm hopeless at anything to do with plaster I'm building the partition wall from MDF. One sheet each side. It wil also take the screws for the grab handle (this loo is for an elderly man) without worrying about getting secure fixings. The framing is nominal 75x50 CLS. Very nominal indeed, it's actually 63x38. To save a little space in a tight corner I'll be using it with the long side parallel to the wall. With MDF for the wall it will be amply stiff enough.
I've already done the door and frame. A very simple method indeed. A piece of 4x2 PAR (94x44mm these days) fitting to the existing brick wall, floor to ceiling. 2 bits of 4x2 each slightly longer than the width of the door. One immediately above the door, the other at ceiling height. Together these will give me a window above the door. Then another full height 4x2 to complete the frame. It's far from precision joinery but it will do. Door was Selco's finest cheap 27" jobbie.
i tried out a new power tool too. Like one of these http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-erb474...230v/62616 but it cost me under £20 in a sale at Homebase at the end of last year. Yes it's cheap and cheerful but it made cutting out sections of skirting for the doorframe etc ridiculously easy.
