Thanks for reply. I think Everyone should have an eye test for driving every three years (or even two years) whatever their age. The ideal thing would be to allow opiticans to have a special DVLA test that the driver pays for when the test is due. Anyone who drives a car can hardly use the excuse that they can't afford a single test every three years, as it doesn't actually involve very much!
I missed seeing two dots out of over 100. It is most likely that I missed them by simply blinking at the wrong time. (The test took quite a few minutes, and no-one goes that length of time without blinking). I did not get an answer when I asked if the machine took blinking into account!
I have not been on a motorway for more than 25 years simply because I do not go long distances in a car. On the rare occasions we travel long distances, it is by train. I am quite comfortable driving locally for shopping or picking up heavy items and drive three or four times a week.
My eyesight is extremely good. I am monitored for interocular pressur that is controlled by eydrops, but do not have glaucoma! My last hospital appointment was on the 13th of this month. My report from the hospital arrived yesterday and it stated field of vision full in both eyes, pressures normal, vision exellent, with the note "Fit to drive from an ocular point of view!" Visual acuity 6/5 +2 6/6. I cannot believe that a result from an eye hopsital could ever be overruled by a Specsavers report!
My reactions are excellent (But I would say that, wouldn't I

As for my eyesight, apart from the tests, I work to very fine limits in my hobby of miniature model shipbuilding. (See image below and note the size in comparison with the pen)
I feel it is unreasonable in the extreme to make me wait for a month for the result.
I feel that I am not being unreasonable in saying that I will take any eyesight test that the see fit to give me - but I want the result immediately!

To sum it all up, the point I am trying to make is that I do not object to the test, but I do object to the fact that I have to go on a 1 hour bus ride to another town to take it, and then wait a further month for the result, when a highly qualified hospital consultant has just declared me totally fit to drive only a week before!
