For homebrew pcbs even double sided is hard work and plated through holes aren't possible.

To be fair, though plated-through is not on, those rivet-things worked quite well.

4-layer, OTOH = not possible.

To get a 4-layer board made, silk screen, soldermask and all for only USD 6 would have been inconceivable even a year or two ago.
