Most oscillators are full of substantial harmonics unless the amplitude is tamed, the 500kHz xtal marker in my old Murphy B40d was good to at least 30MHz.

Ideally you need to tune the output of the oscillator to the fundamental or the overtone, whichever one you're interested in.
