Mike, do these crystals have the frequency marked on them?
If they do, concentrate on those which are an exact multiple of 9kHz as these are likely to be of most use to you - assuming that it is MW or LW you are interested in.
These will offer the best chances for finding an interference free channel as you will be co-channel with any interfering transmitters - you won't be causing any problems to a transmitter 100s of miles away from you but it can cause you a lot of grief after dark, especially at this time of year. If you can achieve zero beat by tweaking the crystal slightly, your enjoyment won't be spoilt!
