Alan does well with his 1.5v cell, the Avo ad says about 12 months expected life on a U2 cell with the converter in use. Suppose batteries have got a bit better in 38 years. Unless the battery fairy changes Alan's when he is not looking!
Even so that's a very low consumption for something connected 24/7. The suggestion would seem to be that somehow this converter only powers up fully on demand and has an idle state.
