I think its too old to have LED back lights so probably CFL if this is the case the patches are most likely cased by contamination from smoke (fags or open fire) you would be a brave man to strip the panel but it can be done.
As for buying a new one well thats a bit of a mind field most even some sony are re badged from the likes of Vestal .check the country of manufacture.

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
