The EF50 story certainly bears re-telling, as does the tragic loss of Blumlein and his colleagues. Getting the kit out of Eindhoven was touch and go, I think a Royal Navy destroyer got the stuff out more or less under the noses of the advancing Germans.
Incidentally, the reason that radar IF in this country was 45MHz was due to TV. A pre-war Pye TRF TV receiver, based on EF50s, was found to be an excellent radar IF amplifier. A fully worked up design that was already in limited production, quite a bonus to the radar people. It may also be the reason that pre-war Pye TVs are exceedingly rare.
