There are various "tear down" articles and videos about these on the www... The conclusions are that mostly they are rubbish and in some cases, plain dangerous. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole or have them in the house.
However, it's also worth noticing that there are several USB standards and the specifications are evolving. The most recent, 3.1, uses USB C connectors which have no polarity and which can charge at way higher rates than USB 3.0 - up to 100W..

They support correct USB 3.1 and charge multiple devices with different specifications simultaneously... You just buy the output leads you need - they're pretty cheap...
