Yesterday evening the TRF unit was reinstalled into the cabinet. One aspect about the design of this set is not very good. In order the TRF unit can be refitted the CRT has to come out and in reality less these old fragile tubes are handled the better. So for starters the CR tube was taken out and then the TRF unit refitted followed by the installation of the CR tube.
Anyway, all my efforts on the TRF unit have proved worthwhile, the set has a bit more RF gain which I suppose doesn't matter too much since the Aurora delivers such a high level of RF, the main objective of all this work has been realised, the picture is much better now, well contrasted.
The attachments show the tight space to refit the TRF unit into the cabinet and the very long CRT, it's more than 30 inches.
