Well I ordered some LM1881's last night from RS and they arrived this morning
I've now built a the sync separator and a sawtooth oscillator with a 555. Success, it works on all Electronic standards and on 240 & 180 lines OK, not so happy on 120 lines but I have another way to resolve the mechanical standards. Watch this thread.
