There was no reason that the Baird system couldn't support mixing. Multiple "cameras" could have been locked up to a master SPG with servo motors and eddy current brakes, attainable at the time, for speed and phase.
Mains locking in 1936 again would have been OK but as the grid still didn't have 100% UK coverage a national service of TV would have meant that breathing issues would have been seen on "unlocked" 50c/s mains.
I have an early 70's Ferguson SPG, never to work again but it has three standards 405-625/50 which can be either free running or mains locked & 525/60 free running.
