Certainly the way I have mine boxed and wired there is no need for galvanic isolation. The TTL <->RS232 chip will probably actually open circuit self destruct before putting 500V to laptop.
If there was, I'd use a cheap opto RS232 (or isolated USB on a laptop with no serial port). I only use Bluetooth when there is no alternative to a cable, it's horrible.
I can't see the need for it. But I'm using an old January 2000 laptop with Win2K.
