We are getting confused about what way round the transformer is.
From a crystal set to modern gadget headphones requires the transformer to be wired with the secondary connected to the headphones and the primary connected to the crystal set.
If you are playing music into a gram input from a modern gadget you would need to connect the secondary to the gadget and the primary to the gram input.
I hope that clears things up a bit.
