Valves required matching, either inside or outside of the set. Early radio constructors (including myself), used high impednace (4,000 Ohm) headphones direct in the anode circuit. If the circuit already has a matching transformer in it, you don't need this unit. I use it mainly for home-brew designs because it is cheaper than putting a matching transformer in each separate receiver! This unit is suitable for crystal sets as well.
