Jeffrey, my understanding is that the BNC range underwent a complete design revision many years ago to prevent the mismatching damage I referred to earlier. Whether you can now find any reference to it on-line is another matter - I'm going back to the 60's here when we didn't have such facilities!
I can certainly remember 50Ω plugs with a much thicker pin but helpfully bevelled at the end to help them into the wrong sized hole!
