I did! Curve tracer with just the resistor, and a scope.
If you have an oscilloscope which brings the time base waveform to a front-panel terminal, connect your component (I was testing diodes) across the Y input, and the resistor between Y input and sawtooth output. The Y scale is clearly the component V, the X scale is the component I, assuming that the X-output voltage is much larger than the component forward voltage.
The scope used was a Tektronix 545a.
