Yes, it uses the AC for that function, basically the voltage across the device under test is the X timebase, and the current through the device is the Y timebase, remember to invert the "Y" Chanel to get a meaningful trace, I was sceptical about it at first sight but its great for checking diode and transistor junctions. I have another homebrew adapter with more functionality that I built from an article in the Aussie magazine Silicon Chip.
