There are a few top loaders around in the UK.

IMHO only useful if you have a separate laundry room with the space to allow them stand alone. The ones with a central agitator can be harder on clothes as they can tangle round it. Can't happen in a simple drum. I think they also need more water than a front loader to rinse.
