1N53xx Zeners are only 5W when clamped between between 2 Icebergs within 2mm of the Body. 2.5W is a much more realistic figure when mounted on a PCB inside an enclosure.
However, they should survive 2.27W. As Jeffrey says, space them off the PCB and let some Air flow round them.
I expect W22 Resistors will fit if you want them to run cooler.
