In the early days (late 60's/to late 70's) i cant remember anything beating me or i should say us. the advent of colour tv bought challenges ,i remember a G6 stuck on the bench for 3 weeks with an ident fault. and a thorn 3k with a simple power supply fault that also took over two weeks.
In the 80's the failure to repair increased because we used to take in repairs of anything and some company's decided not to release service data to to none authorized dealers.
since leaving the trade i can pick and chose the things i repair so my success rate is back to 90% ish.
If i was repairing LCD tvs i think my fail rate would be nearer 60%!
I just remember there was one 30AX amstrad tv that would blow its chopper transistor about once every 3 months i never got to the bottom of that one and had to exchange the set as we had sold it .

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
