So they're rather old stock but not ancient. Ought to have survived that long on the shelf. without dying completely. My other guess is they were faulty units returned by a customer who just returned them as "not wanted" as you can at Toolstation. Hard for TS to police that sort of thing.
I'll look at the codes on the new ones when they arrive tomorrow.
The code on the very old Yuasas doen't make sense in those terms so presumably Yuasa changed the code at some point between 1993 and now.
