Hi.
I've been trying my best to not get too bored during my recuperation. So today I had a go at a little 50's Ekco U195 with a simple four position preset station selector.
This particular set is rather bereft of capacitors and must have the lowest component count I've seen, its valve line up is odd with UCH42, UBF80, UL41, UY41. 3x B8A & 1 B9A in a short superhet configuration. It was a quick fix to be honest and I was about to sign it off when I checked the chassis to plug to double check "Black" in the mains plug was going to chassis. It was wrong!!!!!
The switch which was original had been wired backwards so "Red" (live) was at chassis potential when the set was on!
So one to remember, always check that the mains cabling and switch is correctly wired.
Incidentally the set is just an average performer and very plain to look at, not one I'd keep in my collection.
