I only had one really good DMM, a Tektronix DMM916, but a number of "second-tier" sacrificial ones, mainly for high-energy use with one of my other hobbies...
However, after visiting Jeremy (pamphonica) the other day, I treated myself to a Keithley 2015THD... what a lovely bit of kit...

These can be picked up off of eBay for just under £300 + P&P - they are ex-ATU stations, so don't come with the tilting bale (handle) or feet, but are otherwise perfect - a set of sticky rubber feet & a bit of a wipe with meths to remove label residue, and it looks really good - basically a specialised version of the also excellent model 2000.
Mine was missing its serial number sticker, but a quick "*idn?" over GPIB made the unit reveal all
