To get back on the topic, in days of old you could tell if the battery was being charged by revving the engine and seeing if the headlamps brightened up.
Doesn't seem to work these days. Now it could be that alternators regulate the voltage better, they certainly charge at lower revs, or is it something else ?
Better battery off charge voltage?
Over-run filaments?
Eyes getting dim?
I have noticed that modern vehicles use relays to switch the headlamps, so there must be lower losses in the wiring. I remember when light switches used to get warm due to the volts drop across them. Ever had a 6 volt car? No, not a toy one! Glow worms!
